Welcome to the St. Luke’s Scholarship Program. We are proud to support our high school seniors as they transition into higher education.
Scholarship Opportunities
Applicants will be considered for the following three avenues based on eligibility:
- The Ms. Kay & Wilbur Yates Scholarship: A one-time award of $3,000.
- The Ms. Kay & Wilbur Yates Texas Tech Scholarship: A one-time award of $6,000 (specifically for students attending Texas Tech University).
- The St. Luke’s General Scholarship: A renewable award; the amount varies annually based on fund availability.
Eligibility Requirements
To be considered for funding, applicants must meet the following membership criteria:
- The student must be an active member of St. Luke’s Methodist Church.
- OR The student must be an active member of the St. Luke’s youth organization.
- AND/OR The student’s immediate family must be active members of the St. Luke’s church family.
Application Process & Deadlines
We offer two primary deadlines depending on when you wish to be recognized.

Required Documentation:
- Scholarship Application: Completed and signed. (email completed application to Jennifer Powell at office@stlukeskilgore.org.)
- High School Transcript: Official record of your academic history.
- Proof of College Enrollment: Must show a minimum of 12 credit hours.
- Note: If enrollment proof is unavailable by July 1, the Committee will hold your application until August 1 to ensure funds arrive by the Fall semester.
Maintaining Your Scholarship
To remain eligible for continued funding in subsequent semesters, students must adhere to the following academic standards:
- Credit Load: Complete a minimum of 9 credit hours per semester (out of the original 12).
- Academic Standing: Maintain a minimum 2.5 semester GPA.
- Reporting: Provide the committee with a transcript after each semester showing hours completed and your GPA.
Important Note on Eligibility: If these standards are not met, you will lose eligibility. To re-apply, you must complete one semester at your own expense that meets the criteria. Appeals for extenuating circumstances may be submitted with supporting documentation for Committee reconsideration.
Disbursement of Funds
Scholarship funds are sent directly to the institution’s Business Office to be applied to the student’s account. To facilitate payment, the recipient must provide:
- The specific deadline for tuition and fee payments.
- The full name and address of the chosen institution.
- Your Student ID Number.
Program Restrictions:
- Funds are available for a first Bachelor’s degree, a first trade certificate, or a first Master’s degree. Scholarships are NOT available for summer school.
